Giving Your Plants a Boost for the Summer

Updated: Aug 1

A variety of plants benefitting from fertilizer.

Our tips to help your plants thrive in the summer months!

Hungry Plants

Don't forget to feed your plants!

With summer, our watering greatly increases or at least it should - we're not pointing fingers at those who test the drought tolerance with near death experiences.

  • We increase the amount and frequency of feeding/fertilizer as the temperatures climb and our regular watering never stops.

  • We love the slow release fertilizer as it provides food for the plant for 3-4 months and is a constant food source. We recommend Jack's ClassiCote.

  • Liquid fertilizer is good but think of it as more of a feast for the plant followed by fasting until you feed them again. Jack's Classic Water Soluble Fertilizer is our favorite. Stop in to pick up yours today.

A Little Fertilizer Goes A Long Way

There can be too much of a good thing!

  • Follow the label - it's there for a reason. Otherwise you will likely be doing the walk of shame back to the greenhouse to replace your plants that burnt up from the fertilizer.

  • When you're really watering a lot, you'll want to feed about every 7-10 days with the liquid fertilizer. This applies to - Jack's Classic Water Soluble Fertilizer - as there are way too many brands out there to cover here.

  • Jack's Classic Blossom Booster Fertilizer can be rotated in as well to give them a little extra punch.

  • If you really want to get technical for those hungry plants, I would even recommend using a slow-release fertilizer as the base feed combined with a lighter-rate liquid fertilizer.

Well-fed plants are happy plants and will make your garden look great all summer!
